Richards Castle
The remains of the eleventh-century pre-Norman Conquest castle, built to defend the Anglo-Welsh border, sits beside the twelfth century St Bartholomew church perched high above the village. The detached bell tower, dating from around 1400, was probably part of the castle’s defences. Inside, the church has hardly been touched since Georgian times. There are marvellous furnishings including Georgian box pews, a gallery and a seventeenth-century canopied pew for the Salweys, Lords of the Manor, and still used by them at the two or three services held each year. Visit on a clear day and enjoy amazing views from the porch all the way to the Black Mountains and the Malvern Hills.

Nick and Julie were fab hosts, we were greeted with a warm welcome on our arrival and shown to the room (which was much larger than we had imagined) and which was immaculate. The property is in a stunning rural location and Julie encouraged us to walk through the garden to the fields to meet her rare breed sheep, which we did. Julie asked about our requirements for breakfast, and the following morning, Nick was in the kitchen cooking our full English which was delicious! If you are looking for value for money, genuine hospitality in a stunning location then look no further.

Exceptional

This place is idyllic; I can't recommend it highly enough. Our room was a good size, beautifully furnished with exceptionally comfy beds and the whole house is set in a lovely garden with apple trees and feels very nourishing to the soul. Julie and Nick were great hosts and gave us fabulous recommendations for things to do. A superb breakfast was also on offer. I was very sorry to leave.
